Kinzua Bridge

Kane, Pennsylvania

Built in 1882 by the Erie Railroad. At the time, it was the highest railroad bridge ever built, earning the structure its proudly worn badge as the "Eighth Wonder of the World."

I took this picture in October, 2004 while traveling along State Route 6 from Hartford, CT to Columbus, Ohio on my 1967 Moto Guzzi. The sight of this bridge reminded me of the character Dagny Taggert from Ayn Rand's classic novel "Atlas Shrugged." A triumph of the human spirit over nature, it is only fitting that just a coule of years ago a large protion of the bridge succumbed to nature's will, having fallen as a result of a devestating tornado.

As mentioned in "Atlas Shrugged," seeing this bridge really caused me to think of Ayn Rand's famous book and the character Dagny Tagart. Here, however, part of the bridge fell.

Nature over man.

Palace of Fine Arts

San Francisco, California

An absolutely beautiful structure, we approached the Palce at the perfect time of day. Sure, the building was closed at the time. But with the sun begining its desent across San Francisco Bay, it was the perfect time to stroll along the lake and take in the wonderful architecture. A true gem.
