walking along...

Quebec City, Canada  May 27, 2004

Two small children walking along the boardwalk in old Quebec City. My wife and I were just sitting on a bench enjoying the weather and watching the people walk on by. With all of the activity, these two children caught my eye.

Another photograph of my nephew Ivan playing on the playset outside the Ben & Jerry's factory in Waterbury, Vermont. For some reason, right in the middle running around, Ivan stopped at the top of the slide area as though to ponder some great question in life.

At the time, Ivan was not talking. So we can only guess as to what exactly was on his mind.

This is a picture of one of my nephews, Ivan. He, his little sister and his parents live in Vermont. On ne occassion last year, my wife and I had reason to drive through for a visit. While there we went to the Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory where Ivan was much more interested in playing in the park area that they have set up outside than walking through the tour.

Accompanied by laughter from my wife and my brother, I spent the better part of 20 minutes chasing the kid around this playset, trying to take a picture of him. At 2 years old, the last thing he wants to do is sit still.

Long story short, this is one of two shots that I came away with (the other can be seen here). Even though it was difficult to get, I think it was worth it.

Columbus, Ohio  December 23, 2004

Last week, my wife finished the first trimester of pregnancy that will mark the birth of our first child. I thought it might be interesting to take some photographs showing the progression of her pregnancy, and after some gentle prodding, she agreed to sit for me.

This is the first time I had ever attempted to take some serious portrait style photographs. And while not perfect, I thought this came out pretty good, all things considered.

To me, this depicts a captured moment of laughter as I managed to produce a little levity during what could have easily been a very akward setting. However, the only person with whom I shared this photograph commented that my wife looks as though she is screaming, not laughing.

I would be interested to know your thoughts and opinions.

Columbus, Ohio  July 18, 2005

It's been a while since I have posted any new pictures.  I guess that's because there have been so few new pictures to post.  But why?

I have absolutely no idea.

Two weeks ago, however, one of the most wonderful things happened: my son was born.  And in that instant, my camera was immediately back in hand and I wanted to take pictures of everything.  Not just pictures of him (although there have been a lot thus far!); but everything around me.

Imazing how such a small person can have such a big impact on one's emotional well-being.  I mean, he can't talk, or play, or even lift his own head to peer out a window to take in whats going on around him.  In fact, without our assistance, he can't really do anything (although he does do one hell of a job keeping my wife and I awake at night!)  But he does make me smile.  He makes me happy.  Makes me wonder.  Be inspired.

Sure, this is nothing new to the many of you who aleady have children, and it might even mean less to those of you who don't... and that's ok.  'Cause to me, it means the world.
